DuRoss, Alamo recognized by MIAA

Hayleigh Alamo playing softball.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – After opening the 2017 season this weekend at the Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich., Kalamazoo College's Erin DuRoss and Hayleigh Alamo were named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's softball pitcher of the week and position player of the week, respectively, Monday afternoon.

DuRoss, who's coming off an All-MIAA First Team season in 2016, tossed a one-hit complete game in the Hornets' season opener against Concordia-Ann Arbor. Not allowing a hit for the game's first three innings, Concordia's Kassidy Grandorff recorded the Cardinals lone hit in the top of the fourth before DuRoss settled back in limiting Concordia the rest of the way.

Alamo, who finished her freshman season in 2016 batting .261, recorded a three-hit performance in the Hornets' second game on Friday against Cleary University. After the Hornets were limited offensively against Concordia, Alamo drove in the first run of the game in the top of the first against Cleary. She later singled in the fifth and doubled in the seventh.

This is the first time in Alamo's career she's received player of the week honors from the MIAA. This is the second time DuRoss has been recognized.
