Kalamazoo splits doubleheader with Calvin

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a doubleheader with Calvin on Saturday, losing 5-0 before winning 14-5.

Calvin won the opener 5-0 after scoring a pair of unearned runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh.

Kalamazoo's best opportunity to score came in the third inning when the Hornets had runners on second and third.

Nori Seita had the only hit for Kalamazoo in the game. The Hornets also reached base three times on walks.

Calvin scored three runs in the first inning of game two, but Kalamazoo responded with 10 runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead. The Hornets led off the inning with five consecutive hits and later in the inning strung together six hits.

Kalamazoo led 11-5 after three innings before scoring three runs in the fourth and holding the Knights scoreless over the final two innings.

Kalamazoo had 15 hits in the game led by Erin DuRoss going 3-for-4 with five RBIs. 

Andrea MacMichael, Nori Seita, Hayleigh Alamo, Briana Huisken and Anna Majewski each had two hits. Alamo and Huisken each drove in two runs while Isabella Kirck scored three times in the game.

Kalamazoo returns to action Tuesday, April 25 with a non-conference doubleheader at Benedictine (Ill.).
