Softball splits with Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. The Kalamazoo College softball team split a pair of games with Albion on Wednesday afternoon, taking the first game 8-0 and dropping the second 4-3.

Game One

The Hornets broke the game open in the third inning as Anna Majewski, Ashley Schiffer, and Nina Szalkiewicz all hit RBI singles to give K a 4-0 lead.

Schiffer singled again in the fourth to drive in Fiona Summers and increase the lead to 5-0.

Kalamazoo tacked on three more runs in the sixth to bring the lead to 8-0 and end the game.

The Hornets recorded 12 hits in the game and five different players drove in a run.

Ashley Schiffer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Andrea MacMichael went 3-for-4 for one RBI to lead K.

Sammi Luzadre was excellent on the mound, giving up just four hits and striking out seven in the complete game victory.

Game Two

Albion jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Hornets pulled back a run in the fourth and then tied the score in the fifth on Izzy Kirck's two RBI double, but Albion scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead 4-3.

Kalamazoo was unable to mount a late comeback as they failed to record a hit in the final two innings.]

Izzy Kirck led K offensively going 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Keelin McManus took the loss for K.

Kalamazoo will host Chicago on Friday, April 27th for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
