Softball Splits Home Opener With Wheaton

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split its home-opening doubleheader with Wheaton on Tuesday, winning 3-0 before falling 8-3.

Game One

Kalamazoo won the opener 3-0. The Hornets scored a run in the first and two in the third while holding Wheaton scoreless.

Kalamazoo had eight hits in the game compared to three by Wheaton.

Lucy Hart and Kelsey Diekman each had two hits in the game. Hart and Sam Moss each had a double. Moss and Brynna Garden each drove in a run.

Moss went the distance in the circle, allowing just three hits while striking out four and walking one in the shutout.

Game Two

Kalamazoo led 3-1 after three innings, but allowed seven runs over the next three to fall 8-3.

Wheaton had 13 hits to Kalamazoo's 11.

Bella Caza, Sam Moss and Amy McNutt each had two hits.

McNutt and Julia Rambo each had a double.

Moss, McNutt and Kelsey Diekman each drove in a run.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to travel to Bluffton on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
