Softball Splits With Saint Mary's

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a doubleheader with Saint Mary's at home on Wednesday. Saint Mary's won the opener 7-6 in eight innings. Kalamazoo won the second game 8-5.

Game One

Saint Mary's won the opener 7-6 in eight innings.

Kalamazoo led 4-0 after four innings and 4-2 after five. The Belles took the lead with four in the seventh, but Kalamazoo scored twice in the bottom half to send it to extra innings. Saint Mary's pushed a run across in the top of the eighth. Kalamazoo had runners on second and third with two outs before ending the game with a ground out.

Each team had 10 hits in the game.

Lizzy Rottenberk had three hits with two RBIs. Lucy Hart had three hits with two doubles. Bella Caza also had a double.

Game Two

Kalamazoo won game two 8-5.

Kalamazoo scored four runs in the top of the first and led 6-1 after three innings. The Hornets went ahead 8-1 in the fifth. Saint Mary's battled back with four in the sixth, but went down in order to end the game in the seventh.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits compared to seven by Saint Mary's.

Kelsey Diekman was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Lizzy Rottenberk had two hits with two RBIs. Nikki Gorder also had two hits. Amy McNutt had a double with three RBIs.

Rottenberk earned her second consecutive win, striking out two while allowing three earned runs in seven innings.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to host Calvin in a doubleheader Friday, April 29 beginning at 3 p.m.
