Softball Drops Doubleheader at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost a pair of games at Hope on Saturday, 1-0 and 6-3.

Game One

Hope defeated Kalamazoo 1-0 on a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. After the Hornets recorded two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Hope hit three consecutive singles to drive home the game-winner.

Hope had seven hits in the game compared to two by Kalamzoo. The Hornets had one runner on in four innings, but were unable to score.

Bella Caza had a double. Brynna Garden singled.

Game Two

Hope scored two in the top of the first only to see Kalamazoo tie it in the bottom half. Kalamazoo pulled ahead 3-2 on a solo home run by Emma Newlove in the bottom of the second. Hope tied it with a run in the top of the third before scoring two in the top of the fourth and holding Kalamazoo scoreless the rest of the way.

Hope outhit Kalamazoo 11-4 in the game.

In addition to Newlove's home run, Lucy Hart had a double. Lizzy Rottenberk and Jaycee Rider each singled. Sam Moss had an RBI.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to travel to Defiance on Tuesday, April 25, for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
