Swimmers & Divers Honor Most Valuable Professors

The 2022-2023 Kalamazoo College swimming & diving team seniors have selected their Most Valuable Professors to recognize this season.

The Hornets selected Dr. Ann Fraser, Dr. Taylor Petrey, Professor Amy MacMillan, Dr. Marin Heinritz, and Professor Adam Schumaker.

Seniors Katie Rock and Lizzy Silber selected Dr. Ann Fraser from the Biology Department as their MVP. Katie credits Dr. Fraser with going above and beyond regarding her academic success. She is grateful for her assistance with summer lab work, field experience, and streamlining her career path after graduation. Lizzy selected Dr. Fraser for inspiring her SIP idea. Lizzy is grateful to have spent a significant amount of time gaining hands-on wisdom and knowledge from Dr. Fraser. She appreciates her for being a great advisor and mentor.

Dr. Taylor Petrey from the Religion Department was selected by senior Camille Misra. Camille chose Dr. Petrey for his unbelievable dedication and passion for his work. In addition, he has opened her eyes to topics outside of her major, enticing her to keep searching and learning new information and new ways to look at things. Camille is incredibly grateful for the classes she took with Dr. Petrey and for the time she got to spend getting to know him both as a professor and as a person.

Senior Mya Richter selected Professor Amy MacMillan from the Business Department to recognize as her MVP. Mya credits Professor MacMillan as a very instrumental piece in her academic success at Kalamazoo. She appreciates her advice as her academic advisor and as her SIP advisor. Mya is grateful for all the years of experience that Professor MacMillan shares with her students. Mya walks away from every conversation feeling more confident and with a better sense of direction for the future.

Dr. Marin Heinritz from the English Department was selected by senior Sarah Densham. Sarah appreciates Dr. Heinritz’s passion for the subject matter but also her passion for her students. Sarah is grateful to Dr. Heinritz for being kind, caring, and for getting to know her as more than just a student. She is thankful for the guidance and constant challenge to grow. Dr. Heinritz is a significant inspiration to Sarah.

Senior Jackson Rysavy selected Professor Adam Schumaker from the Music Department as his MVP. Jackson is grateful for Professor Schumaker’s classroom environment in which he pushed Jackson to always go beyond what he thought he could. In addition, Jackson appreciates Professor Schumaker’s advice for life after college as well as making connections for him in the music industry.
