Women's Basketball defeated by Bluffton

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 74-58 to undefeated Bluffton University in non-conference action on Saturday.

The game went back and forth over the first 10 minutes with Bluffton holding a 15-12 lead after the first period. Kalamazoo scored the first seven points of the second period to take a 19-15 lead before holding a 24-23 edge with 5:17 remaining. Bluffton closed out the half with 11 straight points to take a 34-26 lead into halftime.

Bluffton (4-0) scored first in the third period to take a 10 point lead, but the Hornets quickly cut the deficit back to eight. The visiting Beavers scored the next seven points and never looked back leading by double digits the rest of the way.

Kalamazoo shot a season-best 45.8 percent from the field compared to 46.9 percent for Bluffton. The Beavers held a 33-30 advantage in rebounds, including 14-8 on the offensive end.

Grace Smith led Kalamazoo with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Kelsey Adamski finished with 10 points and four assists.

Emily Kozal added nine points while Mackenzie Norman scored seven in 26 minutes off the bench. Claire Slaughter had a team-high eight rebounds to go with six points and four assists. Danielle Simon finished with four points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Kalamazoo (1-2) returns to action at home with the conference opener against Calvin College on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.
