Women's Basketball falls 76-64 to Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 76-64 to Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday. It was the final conference game before league play resumes Jan. 4 at Saint Mary's.

Kalamazoo scored the first six points of the game and led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter. 

Alma took its first lead of the game (26-25) with 4:32 left in the second quarter. The teams exchanged leads until the score was tied 32-32 at the 2:25 mark before Alma scored seven straight points to take a 39-32 lead into halftime.

The visiting Scots extended their lead to 12 early in the third quarter and held a 7-point lead (54-47) at the end of three.

Kalamazoo cut the deficit to three points (54-51) early in the fourth quarter and the Hornets were still within five (63-58) with 4:50 remaining, but the Scots scored on three consecutive possessions to put the lead out of reach as time expired.

Alma shot 43.9 percent overall while Kalamazoo made 38.7 percent. Alma held a 45-40 advantage in rebounds, including 15-11 on the offensive end.

Emily Kozal led Kalamazoo with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Suzanne Miller scored a career-high 16 points while hitting four 3-pointers.

Danielle Simon added 14 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Eliza McCall and Sidney Wall also grabbed seven rebounds apiece.

Kalamazoo returns to action at home on Dec. 27 against Manchester.
