Women's Basketball defeated by No. 21 Rochester (N.Y.)

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 85-67 to No. 21 University of Rochester (N.Y.) at the Ohio Wesleyan Bishop Classic Thursday.

Kalamazoo fell behind early and trailed 24-13 after one quarter. The Hornets trailed by 18 points in the second quarter before going into halftime down 43-28.

After Rochester took its largest lead of the game in the third quarter (55-29), Kalamazoo cut the deficit to 14 (74-60) with 3:46 left in the fourth before running out of time.

Rochester shot 43 percent overall while limiting Kalamazoo to 33.3 percent. The Hornets did sink 21-of-26 free throws. The Rochester Yellowjackets held a 54-36 advantage in rebounds, including 20-10 on the offensive end.

Emily Kozal led Kalamazoo with 17 points and six rebounds while Danielle Simon scored 12 points with eight rebounds.

Amanda Moss and Libby Munoz each scored eight points. Alayna Tomlinson added six points with four rebounds.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Friday at 1 p.m. against Goucher College in the tournament consolation game. The Gophers (3-7) lost 82-56 to Ohio Wesleyan earlier Thursday evening.
