Women's Basketball defeats Saint Mary's

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team began the new year with a 70-54 win over Saint Mary's College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo led 15-11 after a contested first quarter before taking a 30-19 lead into halftime.

The Hornets extended their lead to 21 in the third quarter and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Kalamazoo shot 40.9 percent overall while limiting Saint Mary's to 31.7 percent. Kalamazoo held a 48-35 advantage in rebounds, including 12-8 on the offensive end.

Suzanne Miller led the Hornets in scoring with a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds while sinking 6-of-10 3-pointers. 

Danielle Simon narrowly missed a triple-double with 13 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and five steals.

Emily Kozal finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Kalamazoo returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 7 at Hope College.
