Two-sport standout Grace Smith was granted an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Tuesday, March 7 and was the 24th Hornet in Kalamazoo College history to earn the prestigious scholarship.

The starting goalkeeper for the women's soccer team the past two seasons and a staple on the hardwood for the women's basketball team, Smith was awarded the scholarship due to her excellence athletically and academically and her continued commitment to the Kalamazoo community.

A biology major and Portage native, Smith is eligible to use the $7,500 scholarship toward postgraduate study until August 31, 2020.

Smith is just the second women's soccer player in Kalamazoo history to earn the scholarship. She's also the second women's basketball player to receive the honor.

Dylan Shearer was the most recent Kalamazoo recipient of the scholarship. Also a biology major, the Milan native earned the award in 2015.

The NCAA grants a maximum of 174 postgraduate scholarships per academic year to student-athletes in all three divisions of NCAA athletics.
