Kozal scores 1,000th point in loss to Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 72-42 by Calvin on the road Wednesday night.

After a tight first quarter of play, Calvin opened the second quarter on a 16-0 run to grab control of the game. The Knights would not allow the lead to dip below 15 points for the remainder of the game as their full court press forced the Hornets into 26 turnovers. Ali Spayde led Calvin with 27 points on 11-15 shooting from the field.

For the game, the Hornets shot 30.0 percent from the floor compared to 41.8 percent for Calvin.

Emily Kozal led K with 12 points. With her ninth point of the game Kozal, the 2015-16 MIAA Scoring Champion, recorded her 1,000th career point for Kalamazoo to become the 12th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000 point mark. 

Danielle Simon chipped in eight points, seven assists, and 10 rebounds and Mya Gough had eight rebounds.

Kalamazoo will play Adrian on Saturday, January 20th at 1 p.m. in the first half of a doubleheader at the Anderson Athletic Center.
