Simon's triple-double not enough against Adrian

Danielle Simon playing basketball.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was defeated 74-65 at home by Adrian on Saturday afternoon despite outstanding performances by senior captains Danielle Simon and Emily Kozal.

After falling behind early, the Hornets rallied to lead by as many as eight points in the first quarter. K scretched the lead to 12 points in the second before an 8-2 Adrian narrowed the gap and set Kalamazoo into the half leading 37-33. The teams traded the lead in the third until Adrian again went on a run as they outscored the Hornets 10-1 to take control of the game. K continued to battle in the fourth quarter, repeatedly shrinking the Bulldog advantage, but Adrian's dominance on the glass was too much to overcome. For the game the Bulldogs held a 53-42 advantage in rebounds, including 17 offensive rebounds.

Kalamazoo shot 31.5 percent from the field, while Adrian shot 44.3 percent from the field in the contest.

Danielle Simon was all over the court in 40 minutes of action for K, recording a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists as well as three steals. Many of those assists went to Emily Kozal who, one game after recording her 1,000th point, poured in a career-high 30 points and also pulled down eight rebounds for the Hornets.

K will take a break from MIAA action to travel to Oberlin for a 6:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, January 24th.
