KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team picked up an individual accolade on Monday as senior Emily Kozal was named MIAA Player of the Week.

Kozal, a guard from Ada, became the 12th player in program history to score 1,000 points on Wednesday, eclipsing the mark in a loss to Calvin. Her current total of 1,033 points puts her in ninth place in total scoring in program history.

On Saturday, Kozal continued her career week as she poured in 30 points, a career-high, on 10-18 shooting in a loss to Adrian. She is now averaging 15.8 points per game which is second highest in the MIAA.

This season Kozal is leading the Hornets in scoring, minutes played, and free throw shooting percentage while also ranking in the top four in the league in each of those categories. She is both a prolific and consistent scorer as she has scored at least 20 points in seven of the team's games this season.

Coach Katie Miller said, "Kozal absolutely deserves this award after the amazing week that she had. Even more impressive than her scoring totals is that she finds way to score and contribute even when other teams are keying their defense on her. She is one of our hardest working players and we are extremely proud of her for the person she is and the season she is having."

Kozal is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career after also earning the honor during her sophomore season when she led the MIAA in scoring.

The women's basketball team travels to Oberlin on Wednesday, January 24th for a 6 p.m. game.
