Gough breaks record in victory over Saint Mary's

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team picked up a victory on the road on Saturday afternoon with a 57-48 win over Saint Mary's.

The Hornets started the game cold and trailed 15-10 after the first quarter, but a quick 8-2 run to open the second period gave them lead. Saint Mary's rallied at the end of what was a low scoring quarter to head into the half leading 24-21.

Kalamazoo came out strong after halftime to outscore the Belles 18-8 in the third quarter and take control of the game. K maintained its lead in the final 10 minutes, stretching the advantage to 10 points with just over a minute remaining before putting the game away at the free throw line.

Kalamazoo held Saint Mary's to 23.8 percent shooting while converting on 36.7 percent of its own shots from the floor.

Mya Gough highlighted the win with six blocks which breaks the Kalamazoo record for blocks in a game to go along with seven points and seven rebounds. Senior captain Danielle Simon packed the box score with 17 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, and five assists in 39 minutes of action for K. Isabelle Clark also scored in double figures with 11 points while pulling down seven rebounds.

Giavanna Paradiso led Saint Mary's with 18 points.

Kalamazoo will return home on Wednesday, Feb. 7th for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Olivet.
