Women's Basketball runs away from Olivet

Danielle Simon playing basketball.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team was victorious at home on Wednesday night, beating Olivet by a score of 68-62.

Olivet started the game hot and confused Kalamazoo early with some unusual defensive schemes, but Danielle Simon scored eight points to keep K within striking range. Olivet led 19-14 lead after the first quarter, but K started the second with a 10-2 run to surge into the lead. The Hornets headed into the half leading 33-30.

The teams traded baskets throughout much of the third until Emily Kozal made an acrobatic layup while being fouled and then converted the ensuing free throw to increase the K lead. Olivet pulled within three points in the fourth quarter, but the Hornets responded to stretch their lead again. Isabelle Clark and Georgie Andrews finished off the game for K at the free throw line to secure the win.

The Hornets shot 34.6 percent from the field while Olivet shot 35.9 percent overall.

Danielle Simon continued her outstanding senior campaign with 21 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. Emily Kozal had 13 points and six rebounds while Mya Gough chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds.

Shawnee Dame led Olivet with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
