Arlington Scores Career-High as Hornets Fall to Saint Mary's

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team came up short in a 61-52 loss to Saint Mary's College at home Wednesday night.

Kalamazoo took an early lead and was up 16-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Hornets led by as many as eight (20-12) early in the second quarter before the visiting Belles regained the lead (22-20) with a 10-0 run. Kalamazoo tied it at 22-22, but trailed 27-24 heading into halftime.

Saint Mary's led by 12 (39-27) midway through the third quarter, but Kalamazoo cut the deficit to three (43-40) heading into the fourth. The two teams exchanged leads multiple times in the fourth, including a 51-47 lead by Kalamazoo with 5:25 remaining. Saint Mary's used a 9-0 run to go up 56-51 with 2:08 remaining. Kalamazoo cut it to four (56-52), but could not get any closer as Saint Mary's made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Saint Mary's shot 39 percent from the field while limiting Kalamazoo to 29.2 percent. Saint Mary's outrebounded Kalamazoo 44-43 overall, with Kalamazoo holding a 17-10 advantage on the offensive end.

Kaelyn Arlington scored a career-high 27 points with eight rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Jackie Brines added 11 points with two rebounds and two steals. Maddie Coffman scored six points with five rebounds and four steals. Laila Vincent finished with four points, eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot. Sara English had two points with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Kalamazoo is back in action Saturday, Feb. 4 at Albion.
