Women's Lacrosse loses season opener in overtime

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team lost its season opener 9-8 to Illinois Tech in overtime on Thursday.

Kalamazoo scored the first four goals of the game before the Scarlet Hawks scored twice to make it a 4-2 game at halftime.

Illinois Tech evened the score at 5-5 about nine minutes into the second half before Kalamazoo took an 8-6 lead with 8:58 remaining. Illinois Tech scored at the 7:30 mark and again with two seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Illinois Tech took the opening draw directly to goal and scored the game-winner in just 12 seconds.

Illinois Tech held a 20-16 advantage in shots in the game.

Amanda Moss scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the Hornet offense. 

Caroline Mundell scored twice with an assist while Nicole Huff also scored twice with three ground balls and six draw controls. Anna Dairaghi added one goal.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday at Oberlin College.
