KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Putting a fervent comeback effort together in the second half of play, the Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team hoped to come away with its first win of the season Sunday afternoon at MacKenzie Field, but a strong response from the North Central Cardinals allowed the visitors to walk away with a 13-8 win.
Kalamazoo found itself down 6-3 at the halftime break but the Hornets regrouped early on in the second half much in part due to the play of Nicole Huff. Kalamazoo scored four of the first five goals in the second half, three of which came from Huff, and leveled the score at 7-7 with 14:47 to play.
But the 7-4 Cardinals didn't back away from the challenge and ended the game on a 6-1 run.
Huff led the Hornets' attack with four goals on eight shots. Caroline Mundell added two goals and an assist.
Katie Johnson played a critical role in the Hornets' comeback effort making 12 saves between the pipes.
North Central held a slight 31-29 edge in shots.
Today's game concludes non-conference for Kalamazoo. The Hornets are set to begin MIAA play on Wednesday April 5 when they host Trine University.
