KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Trine University scored the game's first goal Wednesday evening in rainy conditions at MacKenzie Field but the Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team settled in as the game progressed and cruised to a 12-2 win to begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

After Trine took the lead less than three minutes into the contest, the Hornets put together a collective effort in the first half scoring five unanswered goals from five different players as they held a 5-1 advantage at the break.

The Hornets continued to press for more in the second half as Anna Dairaghi and Vethania Stavropoulos opened the half with a goal apiece, each goal coming down a player due to a yellow card. Trine answered with its final goal of the day with 17:33 and Kalamazoo tacked on five more goals down the stretch.

Nicole Huff and Dairaghi each scored three goals Wednesday evening while Amanda Moss and Stavropoulos each added two. Moss also ended her day with two assists.

Katie Johnson stopped 80 percent of the shots she faced making eight saves and the Hornets dominated the ground ball count, 27-15.

With the win K improves to 1-0 in the MIAA and will look to tack on its second win this Saturday, April 8, at Hope College.
