Late surge drops women's lacrosse

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team led with 21 minutes to play Saturday evening in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action, but the St. Mary's Belles ended the second half on a 4-0 run setting back the Hornets, 10-8.

The Hornets got off to a strong start scoring three unanswered in the first six minutes of play in the first half. Vethania Stavropoulos scored three first half goals as they teams battled to a 6-6 level at the half.

K built itself an 8-6 lead by the 25-minute mark of the second half courtesy of goals from Anna Dairaghi and Stavropoulos, but the Hornet attack was stifled by the Belles' defense the rest of the way.

The Hornets were limited to just four shots in the second half.

Stavropoulos led the Hornet attack with four goals on seven shots. Dairaghi ended the evening with two goals while Caroline Mundell dished out a pair of assists.

Kalamazoo closes out the regular season this week with a pair of home games beginning with Alma on Tuesday, April 25.
