Johnson makes 18 saves in defeat

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team fell by a score of 16-11 to Birmingham-Southern on Monday afternoon.

Birmingham-Southern jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening minutes of the contest. The Hornets slowly chipped away to narrow the gap to 8-5 at the half.

Kalamazoo continued to battle back in the second half, but Birmingham-Southern bombarded the K goal with 44 total shots and 35 on target in the game. The Hornets finished the game with three straight goals, but the outcome had already been decided.

In addition to shots, Birmingham-Southern also held a significant 39-26 advantage in ground balls.

Rachel Madar scored a career-high seven goals on just seven shots and also set a new career-high with 11 draw controls. Lilly Baumann scored two goals to go along with an assist and four draw controls.

The Hornets will begin MIAA play on April 3rd at home against Hope at 7:00 p.m.
