KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team capped off the season today as Rachel Madar and Katie Johnson have been named to the All-MIAA First Team.

Madar, a freshman from DeWitt, was explosive offensively in her first college season. She smashed program records for goals and points in a season with 72 and 79, respectively. She finished the year second in the MIAA in goals and third in points.

Madar was prolific and consistent, scoring three or more goals in all but two games this season and she was never held scoreless. On April 7th against Alma, Madar scored nine times in a 17-6 victory to set a new program mark for goals in a single game.

The midfielder also handled the draws for K and led the conference with 118 draw controls to jump start the Hornet offense.

She was also named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week during the season.

Coach Jess Smith said, "To be able to put up those kind of statistics Rachel did as a freshman is an amazing achievement.  Rachel has worked hard to consistently increase her level of play all season, and I can't wait to see her continued success throughout the rest of her career."

Katie Johnson, a senior goalie from Okemos, wrapped up a decorated career in a Kalamazoo uniform with her third straight First Team All-MIAA honor.

Johnson was one of the best goalkeepers in the MIAA this season, finishing third in saves with 151 and save percentage at 52.1 percent. Johnson, who holds every K goalie record, also set a new program mark for season goals against average with 10.04.

A four-year starter, Johnson has been named All-MIAA each season, making the Second Team as a freshman and the First Team the next three years. As a sophomore, she was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and she has been named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week three times in her career.

Coach Smith said,"Katie has worked tirelessly for four years and will leave huge shoes to fill when she graduates this spring.  She works hard every day in the toughest position on the field, and her hard work has paid off."

Coach Smith said about the pair, "Katie and Rachel are both deserving of first team All-MIAA honors and we are very proud of them for earning this recognition.  Both are players who work very hard in the classroom as well as on the field, and it is wonderful to see them be recognized for their accomplishments this season."
