KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In the first game of the 2016 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association season, the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team found itself trailing 1-0 in the latter moments of the second half, but senior Allie Brodsky connected with a loose ball inside the 18 and slotted the ball into the side netting to level the score.

The game ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.

"It was a hot night and it was a total team effort to generate the goal," Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "Sydney Spring was relentless in her effort and Allie left no doubt with her finish. I felt we were unfortunate not to score in overtime."

Hope put K on the back foot early as Elizabeth Perkins ran onto a ball played in by Allie Wittenbach and beat a diving Grace Smith to take an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of play.

With Hope holding an 8-6 advantage in shots at halftime, Kalamazoo provided a spirited effort from the referee's whistle at the start of the second half and kept the pressure on Hope's backline until Brodsky finally made the breakthrough the Hornets desperately were searching for.

"I thought we were a little slow to start but was pleased to see us improve as the game progressed," Goyings said. "It was nice to see us generate several legitimate scoring chances in the second half."

Elizabeth Clevenger played a strong role in keeping the Dutch in their defensive third throughout much of the second half as she ended the evening with five shots. Madison Moote led the Hornets with six shots.

Grace Smith recorded eight saves for the Hornets in all 110 minutes of play.

With tonight's result, Kalamazoo moves to 1-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the MIAA.

The Hornets will jump back into non-conference action on Thursday, Sept. 8 when they host Chicago at 4 p.m.
