ADRIAN, Mich. – Inching closer and closer to a regular season Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship, the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Adrian College on the road Saturday afternoon, 2-1.

Tied 0-0 at the half and Kalamazoo carrying play with a 10-2 advantage in shots, the Hornets finally broke the deadlock in the 71st minute when Katie Sorensen finished off a penalty kick earned by Elizabeth Clevenger. The goal was her third of the year, notably all three scored off penalties.

"Liz was dynamic attacking and did well to earn a foul in the penalty area," Kalamazoo College Head Coach Bryan Goyings said. "Katie has been clinical on the penalty kicks all season and it continued today."

Adrian responded, though, 15 minutes later when Sofia Farah struck a ball into the upper right corner leveling the score.

But it was the Hornets' leading scorer, Emma Tardiff, who came to the rescue and scored the game-winning goal just 16 seconds after the Bulldogs tied the score. Tardiff received a ball from Suzanne Miller and finished into the lower right corner solidifying three points for Kalamazoo.

"The team's response following Adrian's goal was exceptional," Goyings said. "Suzanne and Emma combined for a great goal. Emma's persistence and drive to score speaks for itself. She continues to score critical goals for us."

Maddie Odom improved to 2-1-1 in goal for the Hornets.

With today's result, a Hope loss or a win in Kalamazoo's next game against Albion clinches at least a share of an MIAA championship for the Hornets. The Hornets take on the Britons at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Albion.
