ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team picked up another conference win Sunday, defeating Trine 1-0 on the road.
The Hornets applied consistent pressure to the Trine goal throughout the game, recording 23 shots and taking eight corners, but Kristina Veljovic made 12 saves in goal for the Thunder to hold K off through regulation and one overtime period. K finally broke through in the second overtime when Joy Hunziker drew a foul just outside of the Trine penalty area. Sarah George played the ensuing free kick on the ground to Libby Munoz who slotted it through for Julie Zabik to touch past a defender and finish around the Trine keeper. The goal was Zabik's first of the season and with the win, K improves to 4-1 in the MIAA.
Coach Bryan Goyings highlighted the importance of the defense in the win saying, "I thought our backline and goalkeeping deserves a tremendous amount of credit for their composure in recording another shutout."
Maddie Odom made five saves in goal as part of that strong defensive effort.
The Hornets travel to Albion next to take on the Britons on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
