KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Calvin 3-2 on Tuesday night at MacKenzie Field behind three goals from Libby Munoz.

The game was a back and forth affair, featuring plenty of scoring with the teams combining for five goals. Kalamazoo opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Munoz capitalized on a turnover in the Calvin end, finishing calmly around Amy Kliewer in the Calvin goal. Calvin answered just over three minutes later when Camie Rietberg headed a corner kick from Grace Visser into the Hornet net. Kelli Mannes gave Calvin its first lead in the 42nd minute when she broke through the K backline and scored to put Calvin ahead 2-1 going into halftime.

Calvin came out strong in the second half as the game became more physical, but the Kalamazoo defense repeatedly repelled Calvin attacks to keep the score at 2-1. In the 73rd minute the Hornets finally pulled even after Munoz was taken down in the Calvin penalty area and she converted the resulting penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2. Kalamazoo completed the comeback with just over 2 minutes remaining as Allison Shaw whipped a cross into the Calvin box for Munoz to finish off for the game winner. The final goal was Munoz's league leading 11th of the season and continues the team's penchant for late winners as they have scored to win games in the last three minutes of regulation or overtime four times this season.

Coach Bryan Goyings said, "Libby deserves a tremendous amount of credit for her finishing and composure around the goal today, but the team as a whole displayed tremendous resiliency. The diligent work of Raechel Schmidt, Julie Zabik, Ella Schodowski, and Christina Dandar was critical to earning a win against a formidable opponent like Calvin."

With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-3 in MIAA play and pull even with Calvin for second place in the conference standings. Kalamazoo will travel to Chicago tomorrow to take on nonconference opponent University of Chicago at 5 p.m.
