Women's Soccer takes down Olivet

Josie Sibley playing soccer.

OLIVET, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team wrapped up its season on a high note Saturday as it took down Olivet 2-1 on the road.

After a fairly even first half, the Hornets took the lead in the 40th minute when Josie Sibley touched the ball into the Olivet goal off of a Sarah George free kick. Libby Munoz doubled the Kalamazoo lead in the 64th minute as she took a pass from Rosella LoChirco and powered a shot past the Olivet keeper for her league leading 19th goal of the season.

Olivet cut into the lead in the 78th minute as Miranda Quick laid off a free kick for Emma Essen to finish. The Comets pressed forward in search of another goal, but strong defending from the Hornets preserved the victory.

Maddie Odom was outstanding in goal for K, making nine saves as part of the solid defensive effort.

Coach Bryan Goyings said, "Olivet is a solid team and I was proud of the team's determination and will to earn the win today. Notably, I thought Raechel Schmidt and Maddie Moote were warriors in the midfield throughout the second half. Christina Dandar was responsible for marking their most dangerous player and deserves full credit for keeping her off the scoresheet."

Kalamazoo finishes off the year with a record of 11-8-1 overall and 10-5-1 in the MIAA.
