KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team capped off its season with three players earning All-MIAA recognition as announced by the conference today. Libby Munoz was selected to the All-MIAA First Team and Sarah George and Christina Dandar both received All-MIAA Second Team recognition.
Munoz, a sophomore forward from Leland, was the driving force behind Kalamazoo's offense this season. In 20 games this season, all of which she started, she recorded a league-best 19 goals and also led her team in assists with four and points with 42. Nine of her 19 goals were game-winners which leads all of NCAA DIII. This is Munoz's first appearance on the All-MIAA First Team to go along with two MIAA Offensive Player of the Week awards this season.
Coach Bryan Goyings said, "Libby had an extraordinary attacking season. She possesses a proven ability to be extremely efficient in and around the goal area. I continue to marvel at her toughness, composure, game intelligence, and selflessness. Scoring goals in soccer is inherently hard and Libby often made it look easy."
George, who is making her second appearance on the All-MIAA Second Team, anchored K in the middle of the field whether she was playing in the midfield or the backline. A junior from Royal Oak, George was dangerous on set pieces as she recorded two goals and three assists for a total of seven points. Her versatility is exemplified by the fact that she has been honored as both MIAA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week during her career.
Coach Goyings said, "Sarah was the leader along our backline. She possesses superb ball skills, composure, and an excellent soccer IQ. Countless times throughout the season she made the critical defensive plays necessary to keep us in a tight match or preserve a lead leading to a win."
Dandar, a senior defender from Harrison Township, wraps up a decorated career with her third All-MIAA recognition to go along with a Second Team selection in 2015 and First Team selection in 2016. Dandar was a constant presence in the back for K not just this season but throughout her career as she started 75 of her 77 career games. This season, in addition to her defensive responsibilities, she also contributed two goals and two assists for six points.
Coach Goyings said, " Over the past four seasons, Christina has proven herself to by one of the toughest individual defenders, often times neutralizing or eliminating the opponent's strongest attacking threat. She is always driven to contribute offensively as well and it was fantastic to see her record two goals and two assists in league play. Christina and Sarah's ability to defend individually and provide cover allowed us to often times play with three defenders in order to get more numbers into the midfield."
Kalamazoo finished the season in fourth place in the MIAA with an overall record of 11-8-1 and a record of 10-5-1 in the MIAA.
