KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team faced off against No. 8 Chicago in a home game at MacKenzie Field. After sticking with the Maroons for the first 70 minutes of play, the Hornets fell by a score of 2-0 after two late UC goals.

The Kalamazoo defense showed a lot of determination in the first half as Chicago got 13 shots off, but they were primarily for long distance. There were six instances where Lexi Nesbitt had to make a save, but she was up to the task and turned in a clean first 45 minutes. The backline of Maddie Coffman, Ellie Andrews, Lucy Cripe, and Anni Schnell made it difficult for the high-powered Maroon offense to get going as the game was tied heading into the half.

The Hornets got more chances in the second half after only getting one shot off in the first. Putting the pressure on Chicago, Kalamazoo was building within the offensive zone but could not score a goal. The Maroons broke through with the first goal in the 71st minute as a through ball turned into a goal. The Maroons extended their lead to 2-0 as Kalamazoo looked to run out of gas, playing with a short bench due to injuries. The Hornets put up a good fight on a warm afternoon but unfortunately took a two-goal defeat.

Nesbitt (0-1-2) suffered the loss in net after making seven saves on nine opportunities. Chicago finished with more shots (23-6), corner kicks (8-3), and fouls (16-8) as Kalamazoo racked up more saves (8-1).

Kalamazoo will next travel to Gambier, Ohio, on Saturday (Sept. 10), with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
