KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Kalamazoo College freshman Maria Franco won her first two matches at the ITA Central Region Championships at Stowe Stadium on Friday.
Seeded No. 17, Franco defeated Alex Lynham (Otterbein) 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-2 in the opening match. Franco then won another three-set match over Jenna Murray (Kenyon), 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(3).
Franco is scheduled to face No. 3 Nancy Benda (Hope) on Saturday at 10 a.m.
In other singles action, Eloise Germic and No. 25 Sabrina Dass won their first round matches, but both players were defeated in the second round.
Highlights in doubles included the No. 15 seeded team of Franco and Dass winning their first two matches. The duo is scheduled to face No. 7 Bonnano/Khadilkar (Case Western) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
