Women's tennis has six named ITA scholar-athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2016 team and individual Academic Awards on Thursday, July 21 and a notable six Kalamazoo College women's tennis players earned individual awards while the team as a whole earned academic recognition.

In order for individuals to be named ITA scholar-athletes, the student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of 3.50 or better in the current academic year and have been enrolled at their current institution for at least two semesters.

Sonal Bahl, Sabrina Dass, Maria Franco, Alexandria Oswalt, Elizabeth Tyburski and Sarah Woods were those honored with individual awards.

For the team as a whole to earn its academic recognition, the program must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher.

The women's tennis program is coming off a second place finish in the MIAA and has finished in the top two that past four seasons.
