GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team won 5-1 at Calvin in the MIAA Tournament Semifinals on Thursday.

The win was especially impressive for the Hornets as they entered as the tournament's No. 3 seed while Calvin hosted the match as the No. 2 seed. In addition, Calvin defeated Kalamazoo 5-4 in Grand Rapids just last week.

The win puts Kalamazoo into Friday's MIAA Tournament championship match with the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships on the line.

The difference this time around against Calvin was in doubles. Kalamazoo lost all three matches last week, but won two of the three today. Maria Franco and Laura Hanselman won 8-5 at one doubles while Alexandria Oswalt and Sonal Bahl won 8-5 at two.

Sonal Bahl was first off the court for Kalamazoo in singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win at six. Maria Franco won 6-3, 6-1 at one singles and Laura Hanselman clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at two.

Check Kalamazoo's schedule page for Friday's exact time and location. At last check top-seeded Hope was leading No. 4 Saint Mary's 3-0. A Flying Dutch win would put the championship match in Holland at 4 p.m. If Saint Mary's were to win Kalamazoo would host the Belles on Friday.
