Women's Tennis comes up short in MIAA finals

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team lost 5-1 at Hope in the MIAA Tournament championship match on Friday. The winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships.

Kalamazoo trailed 2-1 after doubles as Maria Franco and Laura Hanselman won 8-6 at number one. The Hornets narrowly lost 8-6 at number two.

Hope proceeded to win three singles match to clinch the win. Maria Franco had split a pair of sets at number one (6-0, 3-6) before the match was decided.

Kalamazoo advanced to the tournament finals by defeating Calvin 5-1 in Grand Rapids on Thursday. The Hornets finished the season 11-10 overall after going 6-2 and finishing third in the MIAA.
