Women's Tennis defeats Ohio Northern

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team defeated Ohio Northern University 6-3 Friday night inside the Markin Center.

Kalamazoo led 2-1 after doubles and won four of the six singles matches to win the match.

Maddy Winarski and Helen Pelak began doubles with an 8-4 win at three. After Ohio Northern won at two, Maria Franco and Laura Hanselman won 9-7 at one.

Hanselman earned  a 6-1, 6-3 win at one singles while Winarski won 6-3, 6-3 at two to give the Hornets a 4-2 advantage. The Polar Bears made it 4-3 before a retirement at five singles clinched the win for Kalamazoo.

Julia Bachmann finished things off with a 4-6, 7-6(3), 10-3 win at six singles.

Kalamazoo is back in action at home next weekend when the Hornets host Oberlin on Feb. 24 and Case Western Reserve on Feb. 25.
