KALAMAZOO, Mich. – After a strong final week of the season, the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team's Maddy Winarski has been named MIAA Player of the Week.

The Hornets kicked off the week on Wednesday with a 9-0 win over Albion. Winarski, a freshman from Rochester Hills, teamed up with Alex Oswalt for a dominant 8-0 win at two doubles before winning 6-1, 6-1 at two singles.

Winarski was a vital part of K's tense, season ending 5-4 win over Calvin on Saturday. She again paired with Oswalt to win 8-1 at two doubles to give the Hornets a 2-1 leading heading into singles play. Calvin attempted to make a comeback in singles, but Winarski grabbed a crucial point at two singles. She won the first set 7-6 in a tie break and then cruised to a 6-0 win in the second set.

Coach Mark Murphy said, "This is a well deserved honor for Maddy. She has played at a high level all year and has been outstanding in MIAA play."

Winarski went 7-1 in MIAA singles and doubles play this year and is being honored as MIAA Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
