Torres Named Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Monday afternoon that Renee Torres has been named the women's tennis Athlete of the Week.

The sophomore from Northville, Mich. (Northville HS) won both her matches in Kalamazoo's 8-1 win over Alma on Sunday to wrap up the regular season. She won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 against Alma's Emily McDonald at No. 5 singles and picked up an 8-3 victory with Caroline Norton at No. 2 doubles. 

Torres boasts an undefeated 10-0 record this year in singles play, having gone 6-0 at the No. 4 spot and 4-0 at No. 5. With Norton at No. 2 doubles the duo compiled an 8-1 record, dropping just one match this season. 

The Hornets ended the regular season in second place in the MIAA with a 10-2 overall record, 7-1 in league play. They will host No. 3 Trine in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Wednesday, May 5.
