KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Renee Torres of the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team was named this week's women's SAAC Hornet of the Week on Tuesday.
Torres, a sophomore from Northville, Mich. (Northville) went 2-0 last week, winning both her matches in Kalamazoo's 8-1 win over Alma on May 2.
At No. 5 singles Torres defeated her Alma opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. With Caroline Norton at No. 2 doubles, the pair won 8-3.
With the conclusion of the regular season, Torres holds an undefeated 10-0 record in singles play, going 6-0 at No. 4 and 4-0 at the No. 5 spot. Along with Norton at No. 2 doubles she complied an 8-1 record.
Torres was also named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's tennis Player of the Week.
The Hornets ended the regular season in second place in the MIAA with a 10-2 overall record, 7-1 in league play. They will host No. 3 Trine in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Wednesday, May 5.
