Volleyball defeats Albion in five sets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team overcame a 12-5 deficit in the fifth set to defeat Albion College inside Anderson Athletic Center on Sunday.

Kalamazoo won the opening set 25-18, but Albion responded with narrow wins in sets two and three (27-25, 26-24). Kalamazoo evened the match with a 25-19 win in set four.

Albion took control of the fifth set and led 12-5 before Kalamazoo came roaring back to win the match with a 15-13 win in the final set.

Kalamazoo (5-2, 1-2 MIAA) hit .209 for the match after hitting .368 in the opening set. Albion finished with a .170 hitting percentage.

Nya Greenstone had 17 kills with 16 digs for the Hornets. Kaela Van Til also had 17 kills with nine digs and three service aces.

Paige Johnson finished with 14 kills and a .379 hitting percentage.

Alex Gothard had 48 assists with eight digs. Logan Horejsi had 25 digs with four service aces.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 10 when the Hornets host Calvin College at 7 p.m.
