ALBION, Mich. – Looking to complete its season sweep of the Albion College Britons Saturday, the Kalamazoo College volleyball team came up just short as Albion defeated the visiting Hornets, 3-1.

After Albion took the day's first game 25-16, Kalamazoo hit its stride in the second game. The Hornets jumped out to a 10-8 lead but Albion didn't go quietly in set two. With the Brits holding a 23-20 advantage late in the set, five straight points capped off by two kills from Paige Johnson leveled the match back at one game apiece.

The Hornets seemed to carry their momentum into the third set as they held a 9-6 advantage early on, but a stretch of seven straight points from Albion in the middle of the game did the Hornets in. The Britons closed the game 25-17 and ultimately took the fourth game 25-19.

Kaela Van Til stood out offensively for the Hornets leading the team with 15 kills. Shelby Suseland also recorded double digit kills ending the match with 11.

Dana DeVito and Van Til led the Hornets with 22 and 21 digs, respectively.

Match Two

Looking to earn a split on the weekend, Kalamazoo bounced back in its second match of the day against Michigan-Dearborn with a 3-1 win.

It was all Hornets in the first set of the match as K created as large as a 12-point gap on its way to a 25-19 win.

Mich.-Dearborn rebounded in the second set taking it 25-17 but the Hornets closed the door the rest of the way. Kalamazoo took the third, 26-24, and closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth.

Van Til once again recorded a team-high in kills, this time tallying 14. Suseland remained consistent and added 11 once again.

DeVito's 18 kills were a team-high.

Kalamazoo heads back home this Wednesday, Oct. 12 when the Hornets host Trine University at 7 p.m.
