Halley Johnson of the Kalamazoo College volleyball team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 27).

In thrilling fashion, Kalamazoo gained its first MIAA win of 2022 over Saint Mary's, coming away with a five-set victory on Sept. 20. The roles were reversed in the home match versus Defiance on Sept. 22, as the Hornets fell in five sets. Then, #17 Hope came to town and won that match in three sets on Sept. 24. Johnson did everything she could to keep the Hornets in all the matches, leading the team in many statistical categories.

In the win against the Belles, Johnson racked up 13 kills while also collecting seven digs and two aces. She followed that up with a double-double against Defiance, amassing 11 kills and 16 digs to go along with two blocks. Johnson led the team with 26 kills and 29 digs, two aces, two blocks, and an assist for the three matches. The 16 digs tied for the most in a match in her two seasons, and the 13 kills tied for the second most.

As a sophomore, Johnson has played in 27 matches so far in her career and has 168 kills, 17 aces, and 10 assists offensively. On the defensive side of the net, she has 179 digs and 13 blocks, scoring a total of 191.5 career points.

Kalamazoo will host Trine next on Wednesday (Sept. 28) in the Anderson Athletic Center, with the match beginning at 6:30 p.m.
