GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's cross country team finished 22nd at the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday.

Emily Sklar finished 41st overall at the event and 37th in scoring with a time of 19:34.

"Emily Sklar went out at a pretty tough pace over the opening kilometer," said first year head coach Kristopher Koster. "But she hung in there well and I'm so excited for her to get the monkey off her back and PR for the first time since her freshman year of high school."

Sklar wasn't the only Hornet runner to improve her time this year, the team as a whole finished 71 places higher per individual as opposed to last year.

"It was so good to see our women in action this morning," Koster said. "They've really trained hard over the past two weeks since camp began, but you never truly know what you're working with until you see your runners on the race course, and we saw a lot of tenacity out there today."

Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 when the Hornets host the MIAA Jamboree at Eastern Hills Country Club.
