Baseball Sweeps Opening Doubleheader at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept the season-opening doubleheader at Albion College on Sunday winning 10-1 and 11-1 in non-conference play.

Game One

After giving up a run in the bottom of the first, Kalamazoo scored six runs on five hits in the top of the second. The Hornets maintained the 6-1 lead through four before adding four runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by Blake Bean's 3-run home run to right field.

Kalamazoo had nine hits in the game compared to four by Albion. Chase Coselman and Max Gordon each had two hits. Blake Bean had a home run with four RBIs. 

Jack Brockhaus struck out seven while walking one and allowing just four hits in five innings to earn the win. Steven Shelton and Joe Wade did not allow a hit, walk, or run in the final two innings while preserving the win.

Game Two

After a scoreless first inning, Kalamazoo scored one run in each of the second through fifth innings before putting up four in the sixth to take an 8-0 lead. The Hornets added three more runs in the eighth before allowing Albion's only run in the bottom half.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game compared to seven by Albion. The Hornets also took advantage of 11 walks in the game.

Doug Propson was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Ben Chosid was 2-for-5 with a double.

Chase Coselman drove in three runs while also walking twice and scoring twice.

Four Hornet pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts. Parker Sisovsky earned the win with four strikeouts and a walk in five scoreless innings. Thomas Sylvester struck out five in two innings. Brenden Oprinski struck out three in the eighth while Cade Thune struck out one in the ninth.
