Baseball Splits with Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team played a doubleheader with Trine on Friday afternoon, dropping the first game by a 5-3 margin and coming back for an 11-4 win in game two. 

Game One

Trine won the opener 5-3. The visiting Thunder led 2-1 after the fifth inning. Trine added three runs in the top of the seventh to go up 5-1. Kalamazoo scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on first base when the final out was recorded.

Trine had nine hits compared to six by Kalamazoo.

Spencer Baldwin and Harrison Poeszat each had a double. Doug Propson had a triple to lead off the comeback attempt in the seventh.

Poeszat and Amani Karim each drove in a run.

Game Two

Kalamazoo exploded for 11 runs on ten hits in the second game. The Hornets went up 4-0 after two innings behind an RBI double from Austin Duff and a two-run home run by Blake Bean. Trine put up a fight with three runs in the third inning.

Duff hit another double to center field to start off scoring for the Hornets in the bottom of the third, driving in two more runs. Bean blasted his second home run of the contest with two runners on base to extend the lead. Kalamazoo scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth behind another double from Duff and one from Harrison Poeszat to seal the win. 

Austin Duff was three-for-three at the plate with four RBIs.

Blake Bean had two hits- both home runs, his second and third of the season. 

Thomas Sylvester earned the win for the Hornets, pitching five innings. He allowed four runs and struck out seven Trine batters. Joe Wade struck out two in the sixth while Adam Dorstewitz struck out one in the seventh.
