GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team defeated Calvin 9-5 on Tuesday in a non-conference single game against the Knights.

Kalamazoo scored six runs in the first two innings to take an early lead. Chase Coselman hit a home run in the top of the first, followed up by two more Hornet homers in the second. Calvin came up with four runs over the third and fourth innings, creeping up on the Hornets before their next offensive charge.

The Hornets brought one more run through in the fifth and again in the sixth when Noah Hecht stole home. Despite another run scored by Calvin in the sixth, Kalamazoo kept the lead and added a run in the top of the seventh to earn the 9-5 victory.

The three home runs in today's contest were good for a new single-season home run record as the team now has 21 on the season. The previous record was 19, set during the 2017 season.

Kalamazoo had 13 hits compared to six by Calvin. Austin Duff hit his first career home run. Chase Coselman and Doug Propson also hit homers, each earning two RBIs.

Noah Hecht went 3-for-4 at the plate. Both teams went through a lengthy pitching rotation in the game. Steven Shelton and Braden Mussat each had three strikeouts.

The Hornets travel to Alma on Friday, April 30 for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
