Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Over Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept a doubleheader over Alma on Wednesday, winning 4-2 and 8-3. The wins keep Kalamazoo solely in second place in the MIAA with the final series coming up this weekend. The Hornets are one game behind Hope for first place and two games ahead of Adrian. Kalamazoo travels to Adrian for a doubleheader on Saturday before closing out the regular season at home with a single game on Sunday.

Game One

Kalamazoo led 2-0 after a first-inning home run by Doug Propson. Propson drove in the Hornets' third run in the second. Alma scored a run in the third and the fifth to make it a 3-2 game. Propson brought home Kalamazoo's fourth run with a bases loaded walk in the sixth.

Kalamazoo had six hits in the game compared to eight by Alma.

Propson finished with two hits including the home run and four RBIs. Ben Chosid also had two hits.

Joe Wade started on the mound and struck out two in three innings. Steven Shelton struck out two in two innings of relief for the save.

Game Two

Kalamazoo trailed 3-0 in the first inning, but scored three in the third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the 8-3 win and sweep the doubleheader and season series. 

Kalamazoo had 12 hits while holding Alma to six.

Cooper Mills led the Hornets with three hits.

Blake Bean had two hits, both doubles, with five RBIs. 

Spencer Baldwin and Ben Chosid each had a pair of hits.

Adam Dorstewitz earned the win in relief. He combined with Brenden Oprinski, Thomas Sylvester and Braden Mussat for seven scoreless innings and eight strikeouts.
