Football Falls in Opener at Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its 2021 spring opener 55-14 at Olivet College on Sunday.

Kalamazoo took over on downs on Olivet's first possession, then drove 56 yards to take a 7-0 lead on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Brendan Gausselin to Pierce Burke.

Olivet evened the score with a touchdown on its next play from scrimmage. The Comets scored again late in the first making it a 14-7 game.

The host Comets took a 34-7 lead into halftime after scoring three touchdowns in the final seven minutes of the second quarter.

Olivet scored twice in the third before Kalamazoo got on the board again with a 50-yard touchdown pass from Gausselin to Bubba Wilson. The Comets scored again three minutes later leading to the 55-14 final score.

Kalamazoo was held to 230 yards of total offense despite maintaining a nearly two minute advantage in time of possession for the game.

Brendan Gausselin finished 16-of-31 passing for 138 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Bubba Wilson had 81 yards on six catches including the 50-yard touchdown. Pierce Burke had 29 yards on three catches including the 14-yard score.

Jon Brunette rushed for 36 yards on eight carries while also catching four passes for 22 yards.

Jacob Chantres led the defense with eight total tackles including one for loss. Taylor Jackson recorded seven tackles. Jake Osen had an interception.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to host Alma College next Saturday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
