Football Seniors Honor Most Valuable Professors

The seniors on the 2020-2021 Kalamazoo College football team have selected their Most Valuable Professors to recognize this season.

The Hornets selected Professor Tim Moffit, Professor Maria Romero, Dr. Justin Berry, Dr. Ann Fraser, Dr. Jennifer Furchak, Dr. Juan Cardona, Dr. Sara Tanis, and Professor Amy MacMillan.

Senior Nate Micallef selected Professor Tim Moffit from the Business Department to recognize as his MVP. Nate enjoys Professor Moffit's directness and ability to use real-world examples to teach the material. Nate also appreciates how supportive Professor Moffit is of athletics and how he understands the extra demands that come with being a student-athlete.

Professor Maria Romero from the Spanish Department was selected by senior Zach Brazil. He appreciates Professor Romero's ability to make class fun each day. She is very caring for her students and takes the time to help those who are struggling. Zach is grateful for her willingness to be available after classes and to help him understand the content better.

Senior Brandon Mach selected Dr. Justin Berry from the Political Science Department as his MVP. Brandon appreciates Dr. Berry as a great teacher, but also a great mentor. He has gained a wide array of knowledge from taking Dr. Berry's classes.

Dr. Ann Fraser from the Biology Department was selected by senior Garrett Guglielmetti. He has taken several classes with Dr. Fraser based on how much he learns in her classes, as well as having fun doing it. He appreciates the freedom she allows for exploration in lab classes. Garrett is also grateful for Dr. Fraser's flexibility and organization when classes were switched to an online format due to COVID-19.

Senior Alex Stockwell selected Dr. Jennifer Furchak from the Chemistry Department to recognize as his MVP. Alex appreciates Dr. Furchak for providing such a smooth transition into a very difficult virtual learning environment. He appreciates that she genuinely cares about her students and checks in with them on a daily basis. Alex is grateful for having her in his corner during the struggles of dealing with the pandemic and juggling virtual classes.

Dr. Juan Cardona from the Business Department was selected by senior Brad Ekonen. Dr. Cardona has been a valuable professor as well as a valuable SIP advisor. Brad appreciates how approachable and helpful Dr. Cardona is, allowing him to succeed in the SIP process.

Senior Jake Osen selected Dr. Sara Tanis from the Biology Department as his MVP. He claims Dr. Tanis went above and beyond in helping him in class as well as helping him discover his future career path. He appreciates her support and the fact that she cares about her students' lives outside of the classroom. He is grateful for all the valuable advice and lessons he has learned from her.

Professor Amy MacMillan from the Business Department is a popular favorite among the rest of the seniors. Alex Dupree, Noah Coplan, Trevor Whipple, Taylor Jackson, Jacob Chantres, and Matt Kralick all selected her as their MVP. Collectively, they dub her as one of the most influential and supportive professors they've had at K. They appreciate her passion for the class material but also her passion for helping her students succeed. They are grateful for the constant energy and support she continues to provide even in the face of online learning and a global pandemic.

Kalamazoo College senior athletes have the opportunity to recognize their Most Valuable Professors throughout the 2020-2021 season.
