Kalamazoo College's Ian Burr was selected as the MIAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 6).

Burr was active in his kicking, punting, and extra point responsibilities in the Hornets' 21-14 victory over Oberlin this past Saturday at Angell Field. This Kalamazoo win was the fourth win in a row against Oberlin, including the season openers in the past two seasons.

In the kicking game, Burr had four kickoffs that totaled 259 yards for an average of 64.8 yards per kick. However, three of the kickoffs were touchbacks, not allowing the return team an opportunity of getting more yardage. The other time the Yeomen tried to bring the ball out of the endzone, the Hornets got down the field to stop the returner at their three-yard line.

Burr was just as effective in the punting game as his five punts went for 176 yards, including a long of 45 yards and an average of 35.2 yards per punt. Three punts were downed inside Oberlin's 20-yard line to pin its offense back in bad field position, including the 17, nine, and two-yard lines. He also converted a successful fake punt with a run of 22 yards for a Kalamazoo first down.

Burr also capped off all three Hornet touchdowns with three good extra-point tries. This MIAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week selection was Burr's first in his career.

Kalamazoo will next host Kenyon at Angell Field on Saturday, Sept. 10, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
